MARGAO: Raitura Sports Club proved to be a better side as they edged past Sporting Club of Davorlim 2-1 to advance into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Velim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Sports Welfare Club of Zaino at Zaino ground, Velim, Tuesday.
Raiutra led 2-0 at the breather. Raiutra dominated the opening session and surged ahead through Kevin Fernandes, who beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Spurred by the early success, Raitura tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids and doubled the lead midway after Kevin’s shot deflected off a rival defender and beat the goalkeeper.
At the other hand, Davorlim were a subdued lot and failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Crossing over, Davorlim started aggressively with Venson Figureido reducing the deficit after he punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
In the final minutes, Davorlim tried hard to equalize but their forwards let them down.
