PANJIM: Goa’s Rajveer S Caculo secured a bronze medal in kata and kumite in the U-13 Boys category while Manav S Caculo was awarded a bronze medal in U-11 Boys kata at the at the Junior International Cup and USA Open Karate Championship which was held at Paris Las Vegas Hotel, Las Vegas-Nevada, USA, recently.
The Indian team comprised of 15 members. Rajveer S Caculo and Manav S Caculo were the only two Goans in this team.
The Indian karate team took part under the banner of National Federation (NF) Karate Association of India and TKAG excelled.
Karate Association of India (KAI) is the only National Federation (NF) for Karate in the country to be recognized by the Government of India and the team was selected by KAI for participation in this event.
Junior International Cup and USA Open Karate Championship is considered to be one of the biggest and the most reputed karate championship in the World.
There were over a thousand participants with teams of all age groups starting from under five years to adults. The best karate players in the world like Douglas Brose, current Karate Kumite World Champion amongst others were seen participating in this mega event.
There were 12 tatamis (performance rings) being staged at a time which showed the magnitude of this mega event as so many tatamis are never seen in one hall for any event.
It is a great pride and honour for any individual to be selected to represent the Indian National Karate team for an international event and the icing on the cake is when you return home with winning a medal for your country.
