Ravi nets winner for Panchawadi

MARGAO: A 88th minute goal by substitute Ravi Natekar helped Panchawadi United Sports Club overcame Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda 1-0 in the all-Goa play-off of GFA’s Second Division league, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday. There was no score at half time.

Panchawadi United held the upper hand in the opening session and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. They slowly took over their rein with their midfielders and forwards working in tandem to put the rival defence into disarray. Striker Venson Figureido created a scare and had couple of scoring opportunities but misfired from hand-shaking distance. Panchawadi nearly found the breakthrough midway in the opening sessions but his effort missed the target narrowly.
Post resumption, Fr Agnel put up a vast superior display and nearly found success when Frazer Fernandes floated the ball inside rival penalty box but Edwin D’Costa’s powerful header was well blocked by rival goalkeeper Aliston Fernandes.
Earlier, Macky Fernandes muffed a sitter off a well-measured cross from Sezwin Fernandes.
However, the all-important goal came in the 88th minute when substitute Ravi Natekar beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish off a well-measured cross from Venson Figureido.
Stung by the setback, Fr Agnel went all out in search of the equalizer but failed to get past the rival goalkeeper.
