NUVEM: Redbox blanked Vultures 3-0 in the final to emerge champions in the Nuvem Super League organised by Innovators of Nuvem, at Nuvem Church ground, recently.
In the first half, Redbox scored through Denzil Rebello’s ground shot in the 6th minute and immediately doubled the lead again through Denzil in the 10th minute by headed in off a cross by Schubert Colaco.
Thereafter, Vultures through Royston Quadros’ long ranger shot was saved by the goalkeeper of Redbox in the 16th minute. Redbox increased the score tally through Schubert in the 29th minute off a solo effort.
Crossing over, Vultures tried to score but the ball was mostly confined to midfield and the Redbox defence line stood like a solid rock.
Redbox Schubert’s made an attempt in the 47th minute but was blocked by the defender of Vultures. Vultures also had a opportunity but Royston’s shot was blocked by Redbox defender in the 50th minute.
The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 40,000 plus trophy. Best Player of the Final and Man-of-the-Match were awarded to Denzil Rebello. Emerging Player of the Tournament was awarded to Mariston Colaco (FC Nuvem). Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament to Jude Colaco (Scorpions). Fittest Player of the Tournament to Schubert Colaco. Fair Play Award went for Nuvem Warriors.
Fr Alvaro Colaco, parish priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Fatorda was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Francis Xavier Colaco, Fr Victor Rodrigues, Fr Ancy D’Cunha, Fr Constancio Carvalho, Mathew D’Costa, the club officials and other guests.
Earlier, Cyril Andrade welcomed while Alfred Colaco proposed the vote of thanks.
