MAPUSA: Velsao SCC who had made it into the Goa Professional League in 2018 did not disappoint there management nor their supporters in their inaugural season. The team played beautiful football which saw many supporters travel to cheer the team even when they played at Duler Stadium.
However last season Velsao SCC did not have a very good outing where they stood in the 11th position having played 20 games, before the play was abandoned due to COVID 19 pandemic.
This year, the team, under their new coach Jude Baretto showed lot of promise. The side might have lost few of their key players but have found idle replacements.
“We did lose Bersal Viegas to Churchill Brothers SC but we have roped in three good players. Peter Carvalho (Sporting Clube de Goa), Brain Mascarenhas (J & K) and Ganesh Thakur (Churchill Brothers) have joined us this year”.
The team began their training from December 15 at Velsao ground.
Further speaking to assistant coach Climax Lawrence-former International footballer said that his side lost many players to the big clubs in the Professional League.
“We had to form a new team this year and it takes time to combine and gel. This is a big concern for us and to add to the worries, two of our key players are injured. But we are getting ready for the challenge,” summoned the coach.
Velsao SCC begin their league campaign against Calangute association today at Duler Stadium and the side will face a stern challenge from the beach side team, which has many new yet known faces from Goan football circuit.
