PANJIM: Top seed Ritviz Parab of Margao topped with 8.5 points in the nine-round game of all-Goa Open Rapid Chess tournament, organized by Canacona Sports Academy in association with Canacona Taluka Chess Association and under the aegis of Goa Chess Association, at Mallikarjun High School, Canacona, recently.
Ritviz collected a cash prize of Rs 3,000. The other prize winners are: Nandini Saripalli, bagged second place, Amey Audi third (both 7.5 points each), Niraj Saripalli fourth, Kapil Pawse fifth, Rajas Chari sixth, Aditee Prabhugaonkar seventh (all 7 points each),
Saish Audi eighth, Tatvesh Sawant ninth, Anish Prabhudesai, 10th, Gaurav Madkaikar, 11th, Datta Kambali 12th (all 6.5 points each), Anirudha Parsekar 13th, Tanad Bandodkar 14th and Mrunal Telang, 15th (all six points each).
The age group category prize winners are: U-9 boys — Harsh Dagare. Girls – Sayuja Deshmukh. U-11 boys – Navin Morajkar. Girls – Bhavana Agarwal. U-13 boys – Milind Gawas. Girls – Sakshi Naik Gaonkar. U-15 boys – Mohit Khandeparkar. Girls – Neshma Metri.
Prizes were also awarded to the top players from Canacona taluka in boys and girls section. Boys first place — Pawan Vernekar, second Jeet Painginkar, third Sanket Varik. Girls section – first place Nidhi Metri, second Sonika Vernekar.
Out of 113 participated, 28 were rated players. Sanjay Kavlekar, SAG chess coach, was the chief arbiter.
Chief guest for the prize distribution function was Treasurer of Sports Authority of Goa Arun Bhat.
He in his speech appreciated the organizers for organizing the tournament to uplift the talents of youngsters and promised full co-operation in future.
Mahadev Desai, chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council presided.
Also present were Dr Aman Prabhugaonkar, president, Canacona Taluka Chess Association; Ramdas Sawant, treasurer, Goa Chess Association; Sharendra Naik, vice president, CSA and Ratnakar Raikar, secretary, CSA.
