PANJIM: Rohan Ahuja won the Late Lcdr Gopal S Sukhthankar, All-Goa Open Rapid Chess tournament organized by Parent and Teachers Association of Mushtifund High School, Panaji, Goa under the auspices of Goa Chess Association and Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association, recently.
Rohan scored 8.5 points in 9 rounds. Kishor Bandekar, Secretary of GCA and Joint secretary of AICF was also present to grace the function and to give away the prizes to other winners.
The second place in open category was bagged by Amey Audi (8 points), Aditee Prabhugaonkar (8points) secured third and Vasant Naik won the fourth place.
The other top 16 players were: Nitish Belurkar, Snehil Shetty, Swapnil Hoble, Sunad Govekar, Sahil Shetty, Gauri Hadkonkar, Patgar Sudhakar, Shane Braganza, Nandini Saripalli, Kambli Datta, Saiesh Audi, Leon Mendonca, Swedish player Henrick Olsson, Vaskar Rajat, Aishwarya Thorat and Porob Vraj.
The winners of the U-15 age category are: Mohit Khandeparkar, Sumukh Pinge, Sonali Kerkar, Sakshi Prabhu.
In U-13 category, Anant Prabhudessai, Pednekar Vaibhav, Riddhi Zantye, Sanskruti Naroji were the winners.
In U-11 category winners were: Akhilesh Nigalye, Advait Dhavlikar, Swera Braganza, Vrunda Naik.
In the U-9 age category prizes were bagged by Om Barde, Sahil Dessai, Gunjal Chopdekar, Alaina Pereira.
In U-7 age category Ruturaj Dessai, Borkar Pratik, Durva Tendulkar, Divya Tendulkar and Shreelaxmi bagged the prizes.
Siddhant Mhambrey, Viraj Kudav, Vedant Pagi, Kaushik Gauns, Sadanand Nagvekar. Joy Kakodkar and Swapnil Manerkar won the Mushtifund High School Academy Prizes. Best veteran player was awarded to Sadanand Rawal while the youngest player award went to Love Kakodkar.
The championship trophy was awarded to Rohan by Vinay Tendulkar, president of GCA and BJP state president at the prize distribution function.
Other dignitaries present at the function included Prashant Kunkolienkar, Chairman Mushtifund High School PTA, Aparna Chari, Headmistress, Grace Estibeiro, secretary PTA, Sagar Sakordekar, vice president GCA, Dattaram Pinge, coordinator and chief arbiter of the tournament along with Sanjay Kavlekar and Gautam Tari, Mahesh Kandolkar, president of TTCA, Balkrishna V. secretary of TCA.
The vote of thanks was given by Sunita Perni.
The cash prizes were sponsored by Aarti Sukhthankar, ex-headmistress of Mushtifund, who instituted the prizes in memory of her late father Gopal.
