Defending champions Rosary Higher Secondary, Navelim and Infant Jesus High School, Colva will clash to decide the champion team in Salcete Taluka Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs on August 19 at Government ground, Manora, Raia.
In the semi-final, Rosary blanked Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary,Verna 2-0. Rosary were leading 1-0 at the breather.
Rosary opened the account midway in the opening session when striker Ronaldo Dias’ powerful volley brushed past the hands of Fr Agnel goalkeeper and landed into the net.
Striker Tunard Fernandes doubled the lead with a blistering shot beating the rival goalkeeper late in the second half.
Infant Jesus High School, Colva registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem in the second semi-final.
The all-important goal came as early as the second minute. Following a flag kick taken by Sunil Shetty, the rival defence was caught off guard and promising striker Rony Hilario gently pushed the ball into the net.
The Nuvem school tried their best to neutralise the lead and had a golden opportunity but Stephen Colaco muffed a sitter in the second half.
Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary will now meet Mae dos Pobres High School in the third place.
