CHANDOR: Hosts Guirdolim Club went down fighting against Rossman Cruz 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the 15th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup organised by Guirdolim Club and played at Chandor Church Ground. Rossman Cruz entered the semi-finals.
The match started with Nagoa dominating proceedings right from the word go and their pressure yielded result in the sixth minute when Wilson Fernandes ran past a couple of defenders and scored with a placement shot finding the Guirdolim keeper out of position. Guridolim regrouped after the goal but failed to beat the off side trap of Nagoa on several occassions. Guirdolim scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute when Melvin Fernandes drilled home the ball off a Mario Fernandes pass.
Changing over Nagoa came out strong and exerted pressure on the Guirdolim defence but could not score any goals. Just when it looked like the match was heading for the tie breaker, Wilson Fernandes of Nagoa scored in the 68th minute with a chip over the onrushing Guirdolim keeper. In the 69th minute Savio Fernandes of Nagoa curled the ball from the top of the box giving no chance to the Guirdolim keeper and making the score 3-1 in favour of Nagoa. Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC will now play the semi-final on February 10.
