CURTORIM: Rossman Cuz, Nagoa-Verna got the better of CDJ Ribandar 4-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Wilred Leisure Soccer tournament, organised by Wilred Leisure Curtorim, at Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
Rossman Cruz started brightly but Savio Fernandes missed the chance to give his team the lead in fifth minute when he shot straight at the keeper.
Thereafter CDJ dominated and had three scoring chances but their strikerforce Rupesh Kavlekar, Ramesh Palkar and Octavio Miranda –all three missed their respective chances.
As the first half remained goalless draw, CDJ coach Joseph Rodrigues introduced Atul Naik while Rossman coach Benjamin Barreto brought in Joshua Fernandes from the bench which changed the script of the match with both teams scoring a goal each.
In the 55th minute, Stephen Satorkar of Rossman’s arrow bond shot from 25 yards pierced into Ribandar nets off Eusbio Fernandes’ assist. Within seven minutes Shashank Naik equalised for CDJ Ribandar with a deft placement off Atul Naik assist.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Noel D’Silva, Royal Moniz and Joshua Fernandes netted for Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna, while Shashank Kavlekar and Octavo Miranda converted for CDJ Ribandar.
Rossman Cruz will lock horns with SCC Loutolim in the quarter-final on Feburary 24.
