RAIA: Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa, squeezed past Navelim Sporting Club 2-1 to emerge champs in Curtorim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at Curtorim ground, on Sunday. They led 2-0 at the break.
Watched by a large Sunday crowd, Beneston gave Rossman a 2-0 lead scoring both goals in the 10th and 14th minutes.
Navelim fought back but Presley and Rohan were not successful in fiding the target.
In the second session, Navelim’s Clinton Niasso missed an easy scoring chance, shooting into the waiting hands of Rossman’s goalkeeper.
Rossman came close to scoring the third goal, but Imamsab’s powerful shot was saved brilliantly by Jeet Gupta.
Navelim managed to pull a goal back through Presley Gomes. They had a chance to level the score thereafter, but Terence Miranda’s header hit the crossbar and went out.
Rossman Cruz bagged Rs 60,000. Navelim had to be content with Rs 40,000.
Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Michelle Rebello, ZP member, Mr Rui Menezes and others.
Following individual prizes were awarded: First scorer of final, best forward and man-of-the final – Beneston Barreto (Rossman Cruz). Best goalkeeper of final Aston Braganza (Rossman Cruz). Best defender – Noel D’Silva (Rossman Cruz). Best half – Desmond Pereira (Rossman Cruz ). Best player of the tournament – Clinton Niasoo (Navelim Sporting). Best disciplined team – CAC Cansaulim.
