SANQUELIM: Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna defeated United Club of Nerul 4-1 to lift the Late Musa Ali Aga Trophy, organised by Eagle SC, at Sankhali Municipal ground, on Sunday.
In the second minute itself, Nerul’s Ryan Pereira tried his luck on goal but Rossman keeper Aston Braganza was equal to the task.
As the match progressed in the 4th minute, Rossman’s Necessidade Fernandes took control of the ball from Eusebio Fernandes and shot from close range which first hit the inside goalpost of United Club of Nerul and crashed into the nets to open the account.
Rossman’s Josly Moniz sent in a long ball to Necessidade Moniz who shot from the top of the Nerul box as the ball brushed the hands of the Nerul keeper Kurpesh Bandokar before entering to make it 2-0 for Rossman in the 30th minute.
Minutes later, Rossman’s Beneston Fernandes had the best chance to score but shot over the cross bar.
Rossman Cruz netted the third goal through Beneston Fernandes with an arrow bound shot in the 47th minute.
As Rossman Cruz were leading by a three goal cushion they played the next few minutes in a more relaxed manner but Nerul’s Sanket Jotkar took advantage of the situation and netted to make it 1-3 for Nerul in the 51st minute. Beneston made it 4-1 for Rossman in the 76th minute.
The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Elvis Gomes, GFA president was the chief guest gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Brahmanand Shankawalkar, Arjuna Awardee and other dignitaries and match officials.
