PANJIM: United Club of Nerul got the better of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 2-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the 10th London Trophy football tournament, organized by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha SC ground, on Tuesday.
United Club of Nerul led 1-0 at half time.
Don Bosco Oratory has the first go but Hanslum Furtado missed to score from close range off an Ashley Araujo assist.
At the other end, medio Royston Pereira gave United Club of Nerul the lead as he chipped the ball over Don Bosco Oratory keeper Melcom Pereira who was out of his position.
Don Bosco Oratory tried hard to get back into the match but Ashley ballooned over after a delightful ball from Cliff Barretto.
Royston could have secured his brace but saw his powerful effort go inches over the horizontal bar.
Subsequently, Russel was unlucky as his header of a corner taken by Royston was fisted out by Melcom.
Post resumption, United Club of Nerul went all out to secure their position but Royston’s free-kick to Anson D’Souza hit the upright and was safely collected by Melcom.
Don Bosco Oratory’s Rocky had his header off a Francis Andrade assist strike the rival crossbar.
Then, United Club of Nerul goalkeeper Siddesh Morje left Rocky frustrated by thwarting a fierce shot.
At the other end, Melcom blocked a shot from Sanket, who was in a one-to-one situation but minutes later, the latter doubled the lead with a long ranger.
