Sai Avtaar, Nerul in semis

Sai Avtaar Sports Club, Anjuna and United Club of Nerul moved into semi-finals of U-16 Coca-Cola Celebration Cup Soccer tournament organised by Goa Football Association at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, on Thursday.
In Group A, Sai Avtaar got the better of Calangute Association 5-2.  Jesmine Carvalho (3), Uday Gadekar and Leston Martins scored for Anjuna while Rajun Haldankar (2) scored for Calangute. 
Earlier, Sai Avtaar beat Candolim Sports Club 3-0.  Venkatesh Mainkar and Leston Martins (2) scored for the winners.
Calangute Association thrashed Candolim Sports Club 8-1.  Allwyn D’Souza (2), Rajun Haldankar (2), Charles Cardoz (3) and Suraj Singh scored for Calangute while Devendra Pednekar found the mark for Candolim.
In Group B, United Club of Nerul had to sweat it out against St. Augustias Sports Club before prevailing 6-5 on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals. 
In the opening match, St. Augustias and United Club of Nerul were involved in a thrilling 4-all draw.  Sydney Fernandes (2), Rahul Gawale and Anson D’Souza scored for Nerul while Devesh and Maxy Menezes (3) found the mark for St. Augustias. 
In the other matches of the group,  United Club of Nerul and St. Augustias Sports Club blanked YSC Colvale by identical 9-0 margins forcing penalty shoot-outs between the two to decide the semi-finalist.   In the penalty shoot-out, United Club of Nerul prevailed over St. Augustias 6-5 via the sudden death.  United Club of Nerul keeper Sainath was the hero of the day saving two spots kicks to take his team in the semis.  Sainath, Anson, Rahul, Sydney, Francis and Sairaj converted for Nerul while Cosme, Maxy, Akhil, Dattaraj, Aldo were on target for St. Augustias.
