Sai Avtar too good for Guirim

Sai Avtar Sports Club demolished Guirim Youth and Cultural Association 7-0 in GFA’s 3rd Division at Anjuna ground on Friday. Sai Avtar led 3-0 at the lemon break.
Sankalp Korgaonkar scored a brace in the final two minutes to round off a convincing win for Sai Avtar.
They overcame Guirim by testing the rival goalkeeper on a number of occasions. Their strikers had the pace and composure to finish well in front of the goal.
Speeding towards the goal in the 22nd minute, Rohan Rathwal had time to stop, pick his spot and then help Sai Avtar surge ahead. Eight minutes later Sai Avtar’s Achut Chari swung in the ball from the right which looked like a cross, but as the ball changed direction in mid-air it caught the Guirim custodian off guard and dipped in.
On the stroke of half time, Swapnil Kandolkar’s tame shot which should have been smothered quite easily by Guirim goalkeeper Clement Aleluia, rolled in for Sai Avtar’s third. Ten minutes after the breather Shankar Mulgaoncar was played in by Sujeet Korgaonkar and he made no mistake in finishing for Sai Avtar.
By this time some of the Guirim players had lost hope and the mood was infectious as heads dropped one by one.
In the 65th, Sai Avtar’s Ashok Bandekar’s 40-yard strike bounced awkwardly at the last moment to beat Clement Aleluia. With two minutes to go, Sai Avtar’s Sankalp Korgaonkar received the ball from a rebounded free kick to punt home for the sixth.
A minute later, Sankalp was put through on goal and this time he hit a stiff grounder to give Sai Avtar a well deserved three points.
