Salcete FC to felicitate Climax, 7 others

Salcete Football Club will felicitate their former player Climax Lawrence, the first Goan player to captain the Indian National team in the final rounds of the AFC Asia Cup alongwith Clifford Miranda, Anthony Pereira, Mahesh Gawli, Samir Naik, Savio Medeira, Marcus Pacheco, Armando Colaco on March 11 at BPS Club, here at 6.30 p.m.
Lawrence donned colours for Salcete FC when he was just a teenager.
Clifford Miranda, another international, was a member of the India National football team and started his career with Salcete U-14.
Savio Madeira, former Salcete coach and Marcos Pacheco who have been regular members in the support staff of the Indian National team for the last four years and were in the Indian team during the final round of the Asia Cup.
Life member and former coach Armando Colaco is being feted for being Goa’s most successful coach, guiding Dempo to two NFL, two I-League, one Federation Cup, two Super Cups and a Durand Cup titles.
The players will be felicitated by Chief Minister Digamber Kamat. GFA president, Shrinivas V Dempo will be the guest of honour. A musical show with Connie M and his group will perform during the programme.
The club has two tangible objectives – to provide proper training to talented football players of U-14 to the First Division level and also enable to develop their skills and become better footballers.
Salcete has tied up with Rosary Higher Secondary, Navelim for the U-14 and U-16 teams. “Salcete is not faring well. However what is important is that we have a talented batch of youngsters and hope to develop them into good football players,” Alberto Colaco said.
Joaquim Alemao, chairman of the club, described Salcete FC as the nursery. He assured that he will continue to lend help to the club.
Brahamamand Shankhvalkar, Anthony Pango and Simplicio Dias, Salcete secretary were present.
