PANJIM: Salgaocar FC got the better of Dempo SC 2-0 in the GFA U-20 TACA Goa football league match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Tuesday.
Andrus John and Devendra Murgaokar scored for the Greens.
Salgaocar FC started on the front foot and attacked right from the first whistle and were a constant threat to the Dempo citadel.
However the Golden Eagles were the first to hit a shot on target as Vineet Bugde’s direct free-kick rattled the Salgaocar crossbar.
Dempo SC had their chances in the first half but their strikers failed to convert the opportunities that came their way.
Crossing ends, Salgaocar;s Mahesh Naik and Lalit Tariyal created lot of chances for the team spraying constant crosses in the rival box.
In the 59th minute, Andrus finally managed to break the deadlock for the Greens as his low shot beat the rival keeper off Devendra Murgaokar’s assist.
Dempo SC tried to find the equaliser but their strikers simply couldn’t take the chances.
At the other end, Salgaocar FC doubled the lead in the 78th minute when Devendra guided Mahesh’s cross to the back of Dempo SC nets. With this win, Salgaocar FC go top of the table with a game to go.
