Salgaocar FC down Goa Police

MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club managed to get past Goa Police Sports Club 4-2 to enter the semis of the 18th Edition of Goa Police Football Cup organised by Goa Police Sports Cell, at Duler stadium, here, on Saturday.

In a thrilling first session, Goa Police colts came up with a spirited display to hold their rivals to a 2-2 draw.

Salgaocar shot into the lead in the second minute with Sourabh Patil connecting his header off Samuel Costa’s corner to make it 1-0.

Goa Police levelled terms in the next minute with medio Abdul Khan driving a stiff grounder from inside the penalty box.

After some midfield tussle, Green Brigade once again took the lead in the 15th minute from a corner which was guided into the goal by stopper back Krishnanath Shirodkar to make it 2-1.

Spirited Goa Police netter their equaliser to send their supporters into ruptures. Milind Shinde’s free-kick was parried for a corner by Salgaocar’s keeper Jason D’Mello. From the resultant corner, Bhavesh Candolkar stabbed the ball into the net to make it 2-2.

Just seven minutes into the second session, Green Brigade once again took the lead this time Sidharth Kundaikar connecting a left footer from Antush Moniz cross to make it 3-2.

In the closing stages of the match, Samuel Costa unleashed a blistering 25-yard strike which crashed into the far corner of the Goa Police goal to make it 4-2 in favour of Salgaocar.

Salgaocar’s Sidharth Kundaikar received the man-of-the-match award from Peter Fernandes, a NRI from Dubai.

At Sirsaim ground, Dempo Juniors stunned Dempo Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals. The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.
