AMBELIM: Salgaocar Football Club thrashed Youth Club Manora 5-1 in the GENO First Division League organised by Goa Football Association (GFA), played at Ambelim ground on Sunday.
The Green Brigade got off to a bright start right from the initial minutes as Ronaldo Oliveira moved past the Manora defence and scored a brilliant goal in the 2nd minute itself.
The Salgaocar side controlled the game better after the opening goal as Ronaldo netted his second goal at the half hour mark as they lead 2-0. Six minutes later, Ronaldo displayed some superb skills with the ball and eased past the Manora back and swiftly completed his hat-trick as they went into the half with a comfortable 3-0 lead in the game.
Nothing seemed to have been working for the Manora side as they were made to draw deep almost the entire session. Stephen Satarkar made it 4-0 in favour of the Salgaocar side in the 55th minute.
Arnold Rodrigues managed to pull one goal down for the opposition in the 69th minute but that did not stop the in-form forward Ronaldo to add four goals to his name as he netted the team’s fifth goal in the final additional time as they stole all the points in a one side contested game.
In another game played at Artificial Turf, Fatorda United Club Telaulim beat Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao 2-0.
The Taleigao side came into the game off a thumping 3-0 win over the Arambol side while the Telaulim side were previously held to a 1-1 draw to Sesa FA, but both the teams got off to an even start in the game.
Telaulim had an upper hand in the game and this was evident as they netted the first goal of the evening through Engelbert Azaredo in the 42nd minute. In the second half, Taleigao’s Sabino Pereira shot at the goal after a defensive lapse but the strikers shot hit the side netting missing a close equaliser.
It was Joel Dias of Telaulim who doubled the lead after he shot home after Raju Chalwadi’s inch perfect ball to the striker in the 85th minute.
Taleigao went all out and tried to get back into the game however Jose Rodrigues’ attempt at the goal with an overhead kick was too subtle as the rival keeper easily collected the ball.
Later on, in added time, Jose tried yet another shot at the goal but the keeper made a beautiful save to maintain the clean sheet.
