PANJIM: Salgaocar were lucky to put it across Dempo with a narrow 1-0 victory in a GFA’s Super League Football match at Tilak stadium, Vasco, today. There was no score at half time.
The teams were eager to break the deadlock and the proceedings in the post interval period took on a slight turn to rough with Salgaocar’s Krishnanath, Akash and goalkeeper Jason receiving the yellow while Dempo’s Sarineo was also pulled up for an infrigment.
Salgaocar scored through substitute Frazer Gomes in the 70th minute.
It was Salgaocar who made the first move with a brilliant flick by Sidney Gauncar being saved on the goalline by Dempo’s defender Mohamed Ali with great dexterity.
The second half saw the goalkeepers,Jason for Salgaocar and Dylan for Dempo keeping their fort intact along with their defenders Krishnanath and Ali, until substitute Frazer scored what turned out to be the match-winner.
Dempo tried their level best to score but Gaurav Kankonkar’s and Ronaldo Oliveira’s moves were cut short by the Salgaocar defenders.
Salgaocar’s Krishnanath Shirodkar was given the man-of-the-match award.
At Ella ground, Old Goa in another match, it was an easy outing for FC Goa who put it across Sporting Clube de Goa 4-2 after they were leading 2-0 at the break.
A double by Under-20 Salgeo Dias in the 37th and 43rd minutes saw F C Goa taking a deserving lead at the break. Sporting came back with renewed vigour after the interval and managed to reduce the margin in the 61st minute through Lloyd Cardoso. However, Velroy Fernandes scored FC Goa’s third goal in the 82nd minute, consolidating the lead, but it was in the 86th minute that Rohan Rodrigues that managed to further reduce the margin for Sporting.
FC Goa’s Under-20 Jordan Borges completed the tally in the 95th minute.
