MAPUSA: Salgaocar FC demolished Margao SC 9-0 in a round two match of Airtel Goa Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, Wednesday. Salgaocar led 5-0 at the breather.
The defending champions dominated the game and scored at will through Gilbert Oliveira (3), Milagres Gonsalves (2), Marcus Mascarenhas (2) and Brian Mascarenhas.
Salgaocar got straight down to business and had done the damage in the first 15 minutes, scoring three times.
Salgaocar left-back Milagres Gonsalves opened the floodgates in the very second minute as he headed in past Margao goalkeeper Rahul Yadav off a corner-kick from Brian Mascarenhas.
Subsequently, in the next minute, goalkeeper Rahul was stunned when Salgaocar’s Gilbert Oliveira’s venomous right-footer crashed into the rival nylons.
Ten minutes later, the Green Brigade scored their third goal as Milagres registered his brace with a deft placement off an assist from U-20 Aslon Pereira.
In the 40th minute, Gilbert made it 4-0 with a neat finish and four minutes later it was 5-0 when Brian Mascarenhas got on the scoresheet.
Marcus was quick to join the party in the 56th minute after he tapped in from close range as goalkeeper Rahul failed to clear a cross from Nicolao Colaco.
At the hour mark, Salgaocar piled more misery on their rivals as Gilbert scored his third goal off a pass from Nigerian Chika Wali.
In the final minutes, Marcus registered his brace from close range and Nicholas Fernandes made it 9-0 in the added time.
