DABOLIM: Salgaocar FC fought back from a goal down to claim their second successive win in GFA’s U-20 Taca Goa First Division football league match courtesy a 2-1 win over Wilred Leisure SC, at Tilak Maidan on Monday.
All the goals were scored in the first half. In a fast paced and highly competitive affair, the Greens went down a goal in the 13th minute when a quick counter attack through the middle saw Darryl Costa lob past the keeper to finish in some style.
However, the Salgaocar lads increased the pressure thereafter to mount intense pressure on the Wilred goal.
The equalizer came in the 24th minute when an inch perfect cross from the left found Schubert Colaco lurking in the box and leaving him with an easy tap in from hand shaking distance. Salgaocar went ahead in less than 5 minutes after a looped in corned was headed across the face of the goal with James Fernandes bulging the net with a neat volley on the turn in the 29th minute.
In the second half Salgaocar pressed hard to increase the lead and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions with some fine goal keeping and the woodwork denying the Greens a third. On the other hand Wilred Leisure chose to sit back and break on the counter and almost succeeded in doing so in the 85th minute when they missed a sitter from hand shaking distance.
With this win Salgaocar top the table with 6 points after 2 rounds having beaten Goa Velha 8-0 on the opening day.
