MAPUSA: Host Saligao Sporting Club suffered a 3-4 defeat against Xetrapal Sports Club via tie-breaker in the pre-quarters, thus crashing out of the 9th Reira Trophy football tournament, at Saligao ground, on Saturday.
The teams were locked 1-1 at full time. After a barren first half, Craig Menezes broke the deadlock for Saligao Sporting in the 37th minute. However, with two minutes for the final whistle, Xetrapal’s Sherwin Lobo capitalized on a rival goalkeeping error to make it 1-1.
In the penalty shoot-out, Xetrapal proved to be better shooters.
