VAGATOR: Saligao Sporting defeated St Savio, Calangute 2-1, to storm into the semi-finals of the 18th Vagator Soccer Cup, organized by Vagator PYSC, at Ozran ground, on Wednesday.
Saligao Sporting made it into the semi-finals of the, by a well deserved 2-0 win over St Savio Calangute as the winners netted one goal in each session of play.
Saligao Sporting began on an attacking note, wherein the early minutes of the match Sachitand Satedakar sent a long floater right inside the danger zone to Ajay Diwadkar, who to the dismay of his team mates headed the ball over the crossbar.
Ajay made amends for his earlier error, when in the 14th minute he fired in a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box which crashed into the Calangute nets, giving no chance to the rival keeper, 1-0.
Minutes before the halftime whistle, Calangute should have restored parity; however Vichal Vaigankar failed to keep his cool infront of the Saligao goal, having only the keeper at his mercy.
Crossing over Saligao doubled their lead in the 43rd minute of play when the Calangute keeper failed to hold onto Devesh’s shot, where Jaison Monteiro who was lurking nearby, fired the ball home, 2-0.
