MAPUSA: Saligao Sporting Club grounded Siolim-Sodiem Sports Club 2-0, in GFA’s Second Division football league match (Bardez zone), at Duler Stadium, on Sunday.
The Saligao team which are in fine form in the recent inter-village tournament establisehd their dominance in the early stages of the match with swift ball movement to penetrate in the rival territory.
Saligao went ahead in the 40th through Ajay Diwadkar, who tapped in a Brian Fernandes cross giving no chance to rival custodian Salil Chari.
In the very next minute, Saligao doubled their advantage off a neat placement by Rahul Naik. Brian provided the assist once again.
After leading two goals at half time, Saligao had a golden opportunity to score the third after resumption after Brian earned a penalty Shaik Niazi’s spot-kick hit the cross piece.
