CANDOLIM: Saligao United scored a narrow 1-0 win over Sinquerim SC in the Lakhanpal Soccer Cup, organised by Candolim Sports Club and played at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro grounds, Candolim, on Friday.
Both the sides fought evenly and tried their level best to find the much needed goal to move ahead in the tournament.
Saligao United had the first shy at the goal through Trevor Dias in the 11th minute whose fierce shot from the edge of the box was pushed for a corner by Sinquerim custodian Pranav Amonkar.
Changing ends, Saligao shot into the lead in the 65th minute of play when Govind Mahale tapped home the ball from close making it 1-0.
Sinquerim SC tried their level best to find the equaliser but the rival defence stood rock solid.
