Sangamesh finishes first at Goa Marathon

CHICALIM: Sangamesh Handi, a 21-year-old runner from Udupi in Karnataka came first in the men’s full marathon (42 kms) of the 10th Goa River Marathon race held in Chicalim, on Sunday.
In extreme humid conditions, Handi clocked a time of 3:13:35 to win the first place, followed by  20-year-old Aman Mehla from Navi Mumbai who came second with a time of 3:16:52, while Michael Koch, an expatriate based in New Delhi settled for third place in 3:30:21.
In the women’s section, Sarah Koch, another New Delhi based ex-patriate won the women’s title with a time of 4:15:41, followed by the Jaipur based runner Pamela Bahel who came second with a time of 4:29:33 and Loretta Henderson from Alaska, USA came in third with a time of 4:40:38. 
In the half marathon for men, Mahantesh Bingi won the event with a time of 1:24:50, while Vinaya Malusare of Pune came first with a time of 1:40:59 in the women’s category.
Over 3,000 runners participated in the event, with at least 750 runners participating in the 5km run too.
