AMBELIM: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim edged past Indian Navy 1-0 to register a win in the Group D match of Goa Police Cup, organized by Goa Police Sports Cell in association with Vasco Sports Club and GFA, at Ambelim ground, on Tuesday.
Both teams started on a positive note with SCC Cavelossim making fine moves through Nevin Pereira and Aaren D’Silva while Anoop Pauly and Britto was at their best for Indian Navy.
Melvin Fernandes shyed away from the rival goal for SCC Cavelossim in the 18th minute
When the going got tough the frontlines of Cavelossim made frequent attempts on the Indian Navy goal.
In the 30th minute Nevin Pereira of SCC Cavelossim rushed along the flanks as he dribbled past defenders and rolled the ball to Aaren D’Silva who slammed in the ball with a powerful strike to score the solitary goal and the match winner for his team.
Britto of Indian Navy had the opportunity in the 35th minute to level terms with the rival and get the match to where it had started however he failed to score for his team.
Change of ends saw Indian Navy trying upfront moves through Anoop Pauly and GP Sharma but they squandered chances to score.
SCC Cavelossim guarded their fort well till the end of the match to keep their lead as the match ended in a 1-0 scoreline.
