CUNCOLIM: Sao Jose de Areal defeated Wilred Leisure SC Curtorim 1-0 to enter into the semi-finals of All-Goa 9th Cuncolim Union rolling trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union, at Government school play ground, Cuncolim, on Wednesday.
In the first half both the teams held equal possession trying to find a breakthrough. While either of the defence played beautifully in keeping the rivals at bay.
Wilred Leisure’s Welson Fernandes had the first shy at the goal as he dribbled past a few defenders and made an attempt at the goal however Sao Jose de Areal goalkeeper Joseph Monteiro was equal to the task as he made a brilliant save in the 3rd minute.
There after Alviton Silva of Sao Jose de Areal should’ve found the net for his team but Christo Hilario goalkeeper of Wilred Luisure pushed away the ball to safety in the 6th minute.
Alvito Moira of Sao Jose de Areal upon receiving the ball from Nevil Soares positioned himself well and took a goal bound shot but Alvito’s shot was blocked by Fredy Hilario, defender of Wilred Leisure in the 13th minute.
Thereafter in the 20th minute Alviton Silva’s volleyed placement effort was denied by goalpost.
Welson Fernandes of Wilred Leisure shot but to his dismay, Raymond Fernandes cleared the ball for Sao Jose de Areal in the 24th minute.
Wilred Leisure made yet another attempt but Joshly Gomes’ back heel effort was blocked by Nevil Soares of Areal in the 46th minute.
Substitute Aggio Antao’s finally scored the match winner in the 47th minute through an Olympian goal for Sao Jose de Areal.
Trailing by a goal Wilred Leisure tried to get back into the match but Joshly Gomes’ dazzling run in the 49th minute from the half was stopped as Nevil Soares of Areal made a timely tackle and cleared the ball to safety.
