BETALBATIM: Sao Joao de Areal defeated St Anthony SC Colva 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the late Joao Francisco Pacheco inter-village football tournament organised by Betalbatim SC and played at Betalbatim Sports Complex, on Saturday.
St Anthony SC had the first chance of the match through Maxon Fernandes’ long ranger which failed to dip into Areal’s nets in the 9th minute.
Later, Keith Rodrigues of Colva tried a solo effort, after dribbling past a couple of Areal defenders Keith shot from the top of Areal box but the rival keeper saved it in the 16th minute.
Sao Joao de Areal soon shot into lead through Hasten Dias and later doubled the lead in the 36th minute through Prisco Moura’s free kick.
Sao Jose de Areal will meet the winners of St Rock YC Majorda and Rossman Cruz Verna in the quarter-finals on August 6.
