Sao Jose de Areal SC emerge Salcete Zone champs

PANJIM: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club scored a fluent 3-1 win over Carmel Sports Club to win the Third Division League (Salcete Zone) organised by Goa Football Association played at Artificial Turf, Fatorda on Thursday.

Areaison Oliveira, David Colaço and Alvito Silva scored for the winners while Laxman Thappa netted in for Carmel SC.
Joevin Costa of Carmel had an early attempt in the game but his shot from the edge of the box caught the Areal defenders foot. On the counter attack Areaison Oliveira of Areal SC found his shot well above the target.
David Colaço of Areal SC had a perfect chance in the 13th minute but found his powerful shot right onto the crossbar.
Both teams came out strong in the first 20 minutes but neither of the teams managed to break through the rival’s defence.
Joevin Costa of Carmel SC netted in 21 st minute, This evolved much anger as the Areal players claimed it to be offside. The goal was eventually called back and declared as offside.
On the other side, Areaison Oliveira drew first blood for Sao Jose de Areal in the 28th minute with a direct shot into the top corner of the nets to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Laxman Thappa of Carmel SC had a good chance with a well-placed run from the left flank but the Areal defence stood strong.
In the 43rd minute Areal’s Alviton Silva’s left footer from inside the box should have made it 2-0 but his shot hit the edge of the crossbar. 
Moving over, Sao Jose de Areal SC doubled their lead in 46th minute through David Colaço whose low shot went straight into the nets making it 2-0.
Four minutes later, Areaison Oliveira placed a fine cross to David Colaço who then covered some ground and placed a good cross to Alvito Silva who made no mistake to place it into the goal.
Carmel SC were reduced to 10 men as Vaneal Travasso was sent off for a dangerous tackle in the 58th minute and Sao Jose de Areal SC took advantage of this as Alvito and Areaison kept running deep testing the Carmel defence.
Joveto Carvalho of Sao Jose de Areal SC tested the Carmel custodian with two back to back shots straight to the keeper.
Carmel SC had a chance of pulling one down in the 80th minute as Laxman Thappa’s pass to Royston Coutinho failed to connect as the Areal keeper cleared it.
Carmel SC earned a penalty in the additional time and Laxman Thappa made no mistake to pull one down from the spot as the match ended 3-1 in favor of Sao Jose de Areal SC.
