PANJIM: Sateri Sports Club blanked United Sports Club Mardol 3-0 in the GFA Second Division League Ilhas zone at Taleigao ground, on Wednesday.
Both teams started the match on equal footing but it was Sateri who capitalised on the chances that were created.
Sachin Shirvoikar opened the account in the 22nd minute. Sateri went into the break with a goal advantage. Post resumption, Mahesh Naik scored his brace with goals in the 55th and 61st minutes.
USC Mardol tried to get back in the game but their strikers fumbled with the chances. Mahesh was cautioned by the referee just before the final whistle.
Meanwhile at Duler Stadium, St Anthony’s SC, Marna hit their opponents Holy Cross SC for a tennis score in the Bardez zone match.
The attacking flair of the Marna side was contained by their opponents for 30 minutes but as the game almost reached the break, Sadhanand Dabholkar gave the Marna side the lead in the 35th minute.
Holy Cross SC responded quickly with the equaliser four minutes later through Ramson Cardoso. The second half resumed with Sahil Pomburphekar making it 2-1 in favour of Marna in the 47th minute. From there on there was no return for Holy Cross as Marna went on to score the fourth in the 63rd minute through Sahil Chari.
Nestor Dias and Sudhin Shirodkar netted in the 72nd and 80th minutes respectively.
Sadanand completed his brace in added time to take the final score to 6-1.
