FATORDA: Raitura Sports Club edged past Fr Agnelo Youth Club, Paroda by 1-0 in the GFA’s Second Division football league match, at the artificial turf ground, outside Nehru Stadium, here, on Monday.
After a barren first session, Savio Fernandes scored the match-winner in the second session.
The teams started attacking right from the word go.
Raitura SC goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues and Fr Agnelo YC goalkeeper Andrew Dias were the pillars for their respective teams in the first session with a commendable display.
Kanchan Kiro of Fr Agnelo YC had the first go but his powerful left-footer in the seventh minute was blocked by the rival custodian after receiving a through ball from Joy Fernandes.
Subsequently, hardworking Joy was back in action as he set up Edwin Costa, who shot straight into the hands of the rival custodian in the 12th minute.
Four minutes later, Raitura SC could have taken the lead but Sneeden Medeira’s long ranger was fisted away for an abortive corner kick.
Thereafter, Raitura SC’s Savio curler from the edge of the box but the latter’s effort was parried away to safety by the Fr Agnelo YC keeper.
Post resumption, Savio came up with a dangerous move upfront after combining with Olex Oliveira but the strikers grounder was blocked the rival goalkeeper.
Finally, in the 48th minute, Savio broke the deadlock for Raitura SC with a deft placement after being set up by Olex of an initial corner-kick taken by Wilfred Gomes.
As the match progressed, the teams came up with end-to-end action.
Fr Agnelo YC were working tirelessly in search of the equalizer but luck was not in their favour as Anthony Dias’ free-kick which was fisted away by the Raitura SC goalkeeper.
Subsequently, Kanchan Kiro’s effort was cleared by Raitura SC defender Clifton Pereira and lastly, Edwin Dias ballooned wide over from an ideal position.
At the other end, Savio came close to securing his brace with two minutes to go for the final whistle but was left frustrated by the rival goalkeeper.
