CALANGUTE: St. Savio Sports Club, Calangute prevailed over Pilerne Sports Club by 3-2 in the 3rd Division League Match organized by Goa Football Association at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, on Friday.
Calangute could have taken the lead in the very 3rd minute of play but Joaquim Cardozo’s try hit the cross bar and went out of play. Agnelo Fernandes put Calangute ahead in the 16th minute off Vijay Parsekar. Down by a goal, Pilerne fought back and drew level in the 21st minute off a free kick by Johan Fernandes. Pilerne could have taken the lead in the 30th minute but Anson D’souza shot hit the cross bar. Placido Fernandes gave Pilerne the lead in the 35th minute scoring off Anson D’Souza.
Changing over, Calangute were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute for blocking Agnelo Fernandes from scoring but Rajkumar’s kick was saved by Pilerne keeper Krutesh Bandokar. Calangute managed to draw level in the 85th minute with Joaquim Cardozo finding the net beating the rival keeper. Joaquim scored again in the 92nd minute to seal the victory for Calangute.
Earlier, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Domnic Soares who passed away in the early hours of Friday.
