NAVELIM: SC Davorlim defeated United Club of Benaulim 2-0 in the final of the late Jose Bento Trophy final match, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
Mabel Noronha netted first goal for Davorlim with a placement shot off Jodrel Gomes’ assist in the 14th minute. Davorlim further inflated the lead through Agnelo Colaco’s power-packed shot in the 20th minute.
Benaulim’s Arif Pathan long range shot hit the rival post and went out of play. As the match progressed, Davorlim SC had the chance to seal the game with a third goal but Mabel’s grounder hit the rival post and rebound back to play. The winners collected Rs 40,000 while runners-up pocketed Rs 30,000. Vijai Sardesai, Minister for TCP and Agriculture was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Avertano Furtado Ex-MLA of Navelim, Fr George Aguiar, parish priest of Our lady of Rosary church, Navelim, Edwin Cardozo ZP Member and other dignitaries.
