SC Davorlim lift St Joseph Trophy

Sporting Club of Davorlim defeated United Club of Benaulim 2-1 to emerge champs in 29th St Joseph Festival Football Tournament organised by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground, on Sunday.
Sporting Club of Davorlim began their game on a right note and their midfielders and forwards worked in tandem to exert pressure on the rival defenders. They enjoyed the lion share of exchanges with United Club being on the defensive for the major part of the opening session when Joe Gomes put his team in front with a snap shot.
Sporting Club of Davorlim kept on harassing the rival defenders with striker Roesbud Gomes being in the thick of action.
Sporting Club of Davorlim doubled the lead in the 15th minute when Rosebud Gomes unleashed a stiff shot which beat the rival goalkeeper all ends up off a pass from Joe Gomes.
After taking the 2-0 cushion, Sporting Club of Davorlim played at a leisurely pace and occasionally went for the attack but even then, their opponents looked disjointed and failed to combine as a cohesive unit .
Benaulim made a last ditch effort and were rewarded when Ozie Fernandes scored the consolation goal in the 42nd minute.
Sporting Club of Davorlim were rewarded with Rs 25,000 for their efforts while United Club of Benaulim walked away with Rs 18,000.

Best defender of final Laxmikant Kurade of United Club of Benaulim. Best half of final Joe Gomes of Sporting Club of Benaulim. Best forward of final Venson Figureido of Sporting Club of Davorlim. First scorer of final Joe Gomes of Sporting Club of Benaulim. Man-of-the final Rosebud Gomes of Sporting Club of Davorlim.
Edwin Cardozo, Navelim Zilla Panchayat member was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Seby Pereira, Sarpanch of Dramapur-Sirlim was the guest of honour. In all, 16 teams participated.
