SC Davorlim oust Cana Benaulim

MARGAO, JULY 2 Sporting Club of Davorlim were lucky to defeat Cana Benaulim Sporting Association 8-7 via the sudden death to move into the semi-finals of 34th Cana Benaulim inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association at St John Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Friday.

Sporting Club of Davorlim  were lucky to defeat Cana Benaulim Sporting Association  8-7 via the sudden death to move into the semi-finals of 34th Cana Benaulim  inter-village football tournament organised by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association at St John Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Friday. Sporting Club of  Davorlim were trailing 0-1at half time.
Cana Benaulim Sporting Association came close to surging ahead early in the game, but Ozie Fernandes’ feeble shot went straight into the waiting hands of Sporting Club of Davorlim  goalkeeper.
Later, Xamaro Rodrigues too came close  to breaking the deadlock  but a pass from Alfred Fernandes went straight into the waiting hands of the Davorlim goalkeeper.
After a couple of misses, Cana Benaulim Sporting Association found success midway in the opening session as Polvin D’Silva  bulged the net off a pass from Carlos Fernandes.
Cana Benaulim Sporting Association  continued to attack after change of ends  and kept up the pressure on the rival citadel but they could not increase their tally  due to poor marksmanship.
A lot was expected from Sporting Club of Davorlim but they were subdued and hardly troubled the rival defence.
Sporting Club of Davorlim  in their last ditch effort succeeded  as Anthony Fernandes’ cross from the left slipped off Benaulim goalkeeper Hubert’s hands and lurking striker Rosebud Gomes  made no mistake in sending the ball to the far corner of the net.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Rosebud Gomes, Bonnie Niasso, Venson Figureido, Piedade Colaco, Peter Fernandes, John Fernandes and Agnelo Dias were on target for Sporting Club of Davorlim while Santan Fernandes, Xamaro Rodrigues, Alfred Fernandes, Polvin D’Silva, Carlos Fernandes and Ozie Fernandes converted for Cana Benaulim Sporting Association.
