SCC Cavelossim rally to beat Vasco

Cavelossim come from behind as Melwin scores the match-winner after Moises cancels out Vasco SC’s lead

DULER: Santa Cruz Club, Cavelossim put up a stiff challenge to get the better of Vasco Sports Club by a 2-1 win in the GFA’s Goa Pro League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.
At half time the teams were tied in a 1-1 draw with Sujil Ns putting Vasco into the lead while Moises D’Sa came with the equaliser for SCC Cavelossim.
In the 15th minute of play SCC Cavelossim keeper Agnelo Gomes managed to push away Nasar Abdul Kader’s cross, where from the resultant corner kick Sujil Ns leapt high to nod in Nazar’s curling corner to make it 1-0.
Thereon SCC Cavelossim stepped up the attack but failed to get the ball into the back of the Vasco SC goal.
Moises D’Sa, who was a constant threat to the Vasco SC defenders, saw his long range efforts miss the mark narrowly.
In the 30th minute of play luck finally smiled on Moises when his 30-yard freekick gave no chance to the rival keeper and landed into the far corner of the Vasco goal to make it 1-1.
The Portside outfit could have shot back into the lead before the breather but SCC Cavelossim keeper managed to get his hands to Franck Kouassi’s strike from close range and then Kingslee Fernandes- after dancing his way past the SCC Cavelossim defence shot tamely at the keeper.
On resumption of play, Vasco SC took off from where they had left and came close to scoring in the very early moments when SCC Cavelossim keeper Agnelo made a mess of a backpass by Cryson Fernandes, but somehow managed to stop the ball from rolling into his own goal.
Minutes later SCC Cavelossim’s Joaquim Carvalho did well in the backline to thwart Vasco SC’s foreign import, Franck Kouassi from scoring.
While Vasco SC were busy attacking, their defense crumbled at the other end when Vasco SC keeper Jerson Pereira failed to clear away Joshua Vaz’s cross and the ball travelled to Melwin Fernandes who intelligently flicked the ball over the keeper into the empty nets to put the final nail in the coffin making it 2-1.
In the closing stages of the match, Vasco SC went down by a men after Abhil B was given marching orders by referee Jose Dias for a harsh challenge on SCC Cavelossim’s Ashley Araujo.
