MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy put up a stellar performance to score a narrow 2-1 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the GFA’s First Division League match, at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
It was Goa Velha who went into the breather with a 1-0 goal advantage.
The match got off on equal footing with both sides creating several goal scoring opportunities.
Sesa had the first look at the rival goal in the very early moments of the match however Veegan Ferrao’s effort from the top of the box sailed just over the goal while minutes later his free-kick met the same fate.
Sesa keeper Santosh Pujar was at his best and affected a save to push away Goa Velha’s Royston Pereira’s strike from inside the danger zone.
Minutes later Santosh once again came to Sesa’s rescue by thwarting Akeraj Martins in a one-to-one situation.
At the other end Sesa’s frustration of not being able to convert their moves into goal continued, where Veegan saw his power-packed strike bang the Goa Velha upright and rebound into play and then later Veegan saw his strike being paired away by the diving Goa Velha keeper Agnelo Silva.
Goa Velha shot into the lead in the 44th minute when Royston got hold of Kirtikesh Gadekar’s feeble back pass and fired the ball into the Sesa goal, 1-0.
Goa Velha came teasingly close to further inflating the margin within a minute on crossing over, however Sesa’s Criston Fernandes cleared the ball from the goalline.
Sesa finally levelled terms in the 53rd minute when Veegan flashed a dangerous cross into the Goa Velha citadel to unmarked Latesh Mandrekar, who deftly nodded the ball home, 1-1.
