MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy scored a hard fought 1-0 win over Sporting Clube de Goa to maintain their unbeaten run in the GFA’s U-18 League match, played at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
Sesa now have 16 points from six matches while Sporting have six points from three games.
It was Kunal Salgaonkar who scored the all important goal of the match for Sesa in the 61st minute of play.
Both the sides played their hearts out where it was Sporting who had the first crack at the rival goal when Princeton Rebello charged into the rival camp only to see his shot go inches over the Sesa goal.
Sesa created several threatening moves however their strikers failed to deliver the goods upfront.
At the half hour mark Kunal Salgaocar sent a pinpoint pass to overlapping Vishnu Gosavi whose effort was neatly collected by keeper Akshat Hadkonkar.
In the 38th minute Kunal once again came attacking where this time he unleashed a powerful right footer from inside the 18-yard box, however Sporting keeper Akshat did well to get his hands to the ball.
Crossing over Sporting came teasingly close to breaking the deadlock however Joy Hilario’s shot missed the Sesa target by a whisker.
In the 60th minute, the inclusion of Daniel Lobo in the attacking front brought about the desired result for the Sesa lads as he along with Kunal Salgaonkar kept their rivals pinned in their own backyard.
A minute later Sesa managed to forge ahead when Dylan Fernandes curled the ball towards Kunal who made no mistake to nod the ball home, 1-0.
Thereon Sporting keeper Akshat did a fine job under the horizontal bar to deny Lionel and Kunal from further inflating the lead.
