MAPUA: Sesa Football Academy edged past Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 5-4 via the tie-breaker in GFA’s U-14 Second Division football league play-off match at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao, Panjim, Monday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
The academy boys surged ahead in the very second minute when a long ranger by Akash Kudnekar took an uneven bounce in front of the rival custodian and made its way into the back of the net.
Taleigao were caught off-balance with the early goal as they struggled to get into a rhythm.
At the other end, Sesa FA continued their dominance with their attacking brand of football.
Midway, Sesa FA’s right-winger Diptesh Naik sent in a perfect cross for Rajat Harijan but the latter could not make the most of the given opportunity.
Before the break, Sesa FA’s Brijesh Kankonkar attempted two powerful right-footers inside the box but his first shot was saved by the Taleigao keeper and then blocked by a rival defender.
Changing over, Taleigao started with a renewed sense of purpose and found the much deserved equalizer in the 49th minute through Myron Peixoto.
Sesa FA proved to be the better shooters in tie-breaker as Brijesh Kankonkar, Deeptesh Naik, Rajat Harijan and Dattaraj Goankar kept their cool. Shabi Kuttikar, Ruthik Narvekar and Myron Peixoto converted for Taleigao.
