PANJIM: Third seeded Shantesh Mapsekar won the silver medal in the cadet boys singles at the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship held at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Shantesh lost in the final to top seeded Suraj Raj of Tamil Nadu in a close encounter on 9-11, 9-11, 9-11, 7-11.
Earlier in the round of 32, Shantesh beat Joshi Mann of Gujarat 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-2).
In the pre-quarters Shantesh easily accounted for Muthu Rajase of Tamil Nadu with identical margin of 3-0 (11-5, 11-7,16-14) and in the quarter-finals he was in the top form disposing Ayan Ghosh from West Bengal 3-10 (11-5, 11-9,11-2). But in the semi-finals the Goan rising star had a tough time in edging out Aman Agarwal from Chandigarh the score being (11-9,2-11,11-9, 10-12,11-9)
Tanise Kertani credited herself well in the youth category by beating U-15 world ranked No 30, the score being (10-12,11-8,11-7,12-10,10-12,11-9,116) but lost in the quarters to Das Priyadarsini on 11-10,11-8,11-7,11-7).
Other notable performance was of upcoming Nagesh Verecar who after easily qualifying in the main draw beat Naman Arora of Haryana 3-1, (11-9,9-11,11-3,11-9) before losing to India no 3 J. Battacharya on 11-6,11-9,11-5.
