MAPUSA: Sinquerim SC registered a hard-fought 2-1 win over Pilerne SC to enter the semi-finals of Goveia Cup organised by YSC Colvale at Colvale Church ground, on Saturday.
In the 20th minute, Pilerne SC earned a penalty as the Sinquerim SC custodian Surat Harijan brought down Aniket Naik. Aniket converted it to give Pilerne SC the lead, 0-1
Sinquerim SC netted their equaliser through Gopal Gaddi in the 24th minute who finished off a Saimesh Gaonkar cross beating the Pilerne SC goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar hands down, 1-1.
On crossing ends, in the 57th minute, Sahil Parwar put Sinquerim SC ahead with a angular drive, which proved to be the match winning goal, 2-1.
The player-of-the-match was awarded to Gopal Gaddi of Sinquerim SC by Philip D’Souza, SC Colvale Club Executive Committee Member.
Earlier, BAFF registered a 7-6 win via tie-breaker over St Savio’s SC, Calangute, to enter the semi-finals.
In the 39th minute, Pratik Tirodkar put BAFF ahead with a solo effort from the right beating the St Savio’s SC custodian with a deft placement, 1-0.
St Savio’s SC tried very hard for an equaliser and succeeded in the 52nd minute through Pedro Gonsalves long ranger, 1-1.
St Savio’s SC were unlucky in the penalty shoot-out with BAFF emerging winners by 6-5 margin.
The player-of-the-match was awarded to Pratik Tirodkar of BAFF by Augustine D’Souza, YSC Colvale Club member.
Sinquerim SC will now cross swords with St Anthony SC, Marna on December 20, in the first semi-final.
