Mukund Shirodkar netted in the 90th minute to give Siolim Sodiem Sports and Welfare Association a 2-1 win over rivals Football Club of Siolim in GFA’s Third Division at St Anthony’s church ground, Siolim on Tuesday. FC Siolim led 1-0 at the lemon break.
Pradeep Pombuphekar received his second yellow card and was sent off in the 74th minute for FC Siolim, which allowed Sodiem to take advantage of the extra man and score two late goals.
Sodiem had fewer chances on goal but they managed to take full advantage with their direct approach on the goal and made thorough use of limited opportunities.
FC Siolim will feel disappointed after not taking their chances but they were not clinical enough on occasions. Melroy D’souza did well to distribute the ball in midfield.
With just 40 seconds gone on the clock FC Siolim took the lead through Pravin Govenkar who headed in a corner taken by Melroy D’Souza.
After the interval, FC Siolim continued to apply pressure down the wings but could not extend the lead.
In the 83rd minute, FC Siolim keeper, Joseph Britto did well to save a shot from Dylan Noronha but Rakesh Vaingankar smashed the equaliser into the top corner of the net to put Sodiem on level terms.
In the last minute, Sodiem intercepted the ball from their opponents and the ball fell to Rashiketh Salgaonkar and he played the ball across the goalmouth for Mukund Shirodkar to tap in easily.
During the match, the FC Siolim team protested that one of the Sodiem players arrived late and should not have been allowed to take the field as a substitute. The Match Commissioner clarified that he had seen the player present before the match.
