Sodiem Siolim move in last eight

Sodiem Sports and Cultural Association, Siolim got the better of Goa Velha Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker after both teams were involved in a 1-all draw to move into the quarter-finals of Vagator Parish Youth Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Vagator Parish Youth at Ozrant ground, Vagator on Wednesday.
Goa Velha shot into the lead in the 15th minute through Francis Pires who headed home after the Siolim keeper failed to make a neat collection off a corner kick.
Goa Velha could have doubled the lead in the 18th minute but a Denzil Cabral try hit the crossbar.
Siolim fought back and mounted pressure on the Goa Velha defense but their forwards, Hanumant and Dipesh were unable to find the mark.
Changing over, Siolim levelled the score in the 40th minute following a combined move between Hanumant and Dippesh with the latter finding the net.
With scores even, Goa Velha had an opportunity to forge ahead in the 42nd minute but a Pravin Naik try went inches wide off the mark.
The match was finally decided on penalties. Sodiem got the better of Goa Velha 4-3 via tie-breaker.
Dipesh Salgaonkar, Hrishikesh Salgaonkar, Sushant Vaigankar and Sydney Pereira were on target for Sodiem while Joy Gonsalves, Francis Pires and Anthony Pereira found the mark for Goa Velha.
