PANJIM, JULY 7 Statistics sought by Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) from the traffic cell show that from January to May, 2010, 173 people have lost their lives in road accidents in the State.

Statistics sought by Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) from the traffic cell show that from January to May, 2010, 173 people have lost their lives in road accidents in the State.
In the first five months of the year 73 riders, 22 pillions and 11 drivers were killed in accidents. The number of pedestrians dying too is significant at 41, while 17 have been passengers, three cyclists and others 2.
January and May saw the most number of accidents at 472 and 423 respectively. February recorded 411 accidents, March 391 and April 393 taking the total number in the first five months to 2090. There have been 112 grievous and 152 fatal accidents. There were 785 minor injury accidents causing minor injuries to 1,272 people.
