MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa grounded Dunes Sports Club 6-1 in a GFA’s U-14 First Division football league match at Duler Stadium, here, Sunday. Sporting Clube led 3-0 at half time.
Niraj Parekh gave Sporting Clube the lead in the 12th minute while Lloyd Mascarenhas doubled the advantage, ten minutes later. Aman Govekar made it 3-0 in the 30th minute while Stanley Fernandes registered a brace in the 56th and 60th minute before Shanon Viegas squeezed a goal home in the 58thminute. Dunes’ lone goal came in the form of Prakshay Simepuruskar’s free-kick.
Sporting Clube youngsters had a fiery start to the proceeding with skipper Malcom Gonsalves pulling the strings in the midfield. Malcom tested rival keeper Hrushikesh Kinlekar in the very second minute with a long ranger but the custodian did well to avert the danger. At the other end, Dunes’ Sahil Mandrekar’s promising grounder was blocked by Sporting Clube keeper Akshat Hadkonkar.
The Flaming Oranje were certainly dominant in the initial stages and opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Niraj cleverly chipped over keeper Hrushikesh.
Four minutes later, Dunes conceded a needless penalty as Prakshay brought down Aman Govekar inside the danger zone. Referee Gilu was rightly positioned and awarded a penalty in Sporting Clube’ favour, booking Prakshay for the offence. Jonas Fernandes bravely stepped up for the spot-kick but his rasping effort hit the horizontal bar.
However, Sporting Clube doubled their advantage in the 21st minute through Lloyd. A powerful free-kick from outside the box by Malcom was too hot to handle for the rival keeper as the ball hit the upright and rebounded to Lloyd, who nodded in from close range.
It was 3-0 at the hour mark after Aman took advantage off a defensive lapse by Prakshay and fired past the keeper.
Changing over, Sporting Clube continued their dominance with Stanley’s brace and a goal from Shanon. Dunes SC scored a consolation goal through Prakshay’s well executed free-kick.
At Poriat ground, Calangute, Vasco Sports Club registered a solitary goal victory over Goa United Sports Academy.
