MARGAO: Agnas Vaz and Socorro Fernandes scored two crucial goals in the second half to help St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda register a 2-1 win over CAC, Cansualim and advance into the quarter-finals of all- Goa Zenia and Ziya inter-village football tournament organized by Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club, at Manora ground, Raia, on Sunday. There was no score at the lemon break.
St Anthony made all the right moves at the start of the match but lacked fire power upfront.
CAC, Cansualim took time to settle down but they were denied by rival defenders with tight marking.
Post resumption, St Anthony showed urgency with their forwards troubling the rival defence with sporadic raids. Agnas headed home off a well-executed free-kick taken by Vicky Fernandes, 1-0.
Stung by the setback, CAC fought gallantly and penetrated into the rival territory with Brian Diniz converting from the spot-kick in the 55th minute for the equalizer after Christo Fernandes handled the ball in the danger zone.
Brian Diniz took the resultant spot-kick to send the rival goalkeeper in wrong way.
Stunned by the equalizer, St Anthony went into attacking mode and Socorro Fernandes eventually nodded in the match-winner.
