St Anthony in final

St Anthony’s Sporting Club, Colva entered the final of All-Goa Alvernaz and Lalush Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Churchill Brothers edging out St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 5-4  via the tie-breaker at Varca ground on Thursday.
In an evenly fought encounter, chances were few and far between with the defences of the teams not allowing  the rival attackers much space.
Bruno Coutinho almost gave Calangute the lead as he unleashed a booming scorcher which was, however, palmed away by the Colva goalkeeper.
St Savio almost snatched the lead at the stroke of lemon break but Pedro Fernandes’ shot was wayward. 
St Anthony’s, who were struggling in the opening session showed some urgency and cohesion late in the second session but failed to get past the rival defence.
With the regulation time ending  in a stalemate, the tie-breaker was resorted to. St Anthony’s scored through  John Fernandes, Bulio, Clyde Pacheco, Nelson Gomes and Denzil Coutinho while Alban Fernandes, Pedro Fernande, Agostinho Fernandes and Blake Fernandes converted for Calangute. Calangute goalkeeper Andrew was adjudged man-of-the match.
St Anthony’s will now meet Varca Sports Club in the final on May 9.
