BENAULIM: St Anthony SC, Colva defeated Sporting Club of Davorlim 4-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the final of the 40th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup 2016, at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
The crucial point of the match was in the 29th minute, where Maxon Fernandes defender of St Anthony SC did a commendable job by rising high on their goal-line and cleared the ball with his forehead to safety of a shot of Agnelo Colaco of SC Davorlim.
It was SC Davorlim which dominated both the last quarters of the match, but couldn’t win the match which could have taken them into the last four.
In the 4th minute, Agnelo Colaco had a chance to score off Bonny Niasso connect but the defender Keith Rodrigues of St Anthony SC blocked his move.
Thereafter, Joston Pereira of St Anthony SC connected the ball to Joseph Pereira but shot blindly in the 12th minute.
Perryson Rebelo’s left footer kissed the crosspiece of St Anthony SC which rebound back thus spoiling a best chance to score for SC Davorlim in the 20th minute.
The second half was started on a positive note with both the teams making forefront moves. In the 36th minute, substitute Milton Rocha’s long ranger for SC Davorlim flew high above the cross piece of St Anthony SC.
It was SC Davorlim who opened the account through Agnelo Colaco’s free kick in the 41st minute making it 1-0 but the joy was short-lived as within five minutes St Anthony SC levelled terms through Joston’s free-kick making it 1-1.
In the resultant tie-breaker, St Anthony SC netted through Joston Pereira, Dhulton Fernandes and Romario Fernandes while SC Davorlim netted with the efforts of Bonny Niasso and Agnelo Colaco.
